Wilde Mähnen - es gibt kaum etwas Faszinierenderes für einen Pferdefotografen als eine lange, wehende Pferdemähne in der Bewegung zu fotografieren. Aber natürlich ist es auch nicht ganz so einfach, ein solches Bewegungsporträt von einem lebensfroh dahin galoppierenden Pferd einzufangen.

Unbedingt notwendig für eine solche Aufnahme ist ein entsprechendes Zoomobjektiv, damit man die Proportionen des Pferdes richtig einfangen kann und selbst dabei einen gewissen Sicherheitsabstand wahren kann. Ein 70-200mm Zoom ist dafür durchaus ausreichend, auch wenn ich mich im Falle dieses Bildes für eine Festbrennweite von 300mm entschieden habe.

Diese ist natürlich lichtstärker und brillanter im Ergebnis, bietet jedoch viel weniger Reaktionsmöglichkeiten für den Fotografen, wenn sich das Pferd auf der Weide hin und her bewegt. Und wenn es zu dicht herankommt, hat man schnell nur noch einen Close-up Anschnitt im Fokus.

Der schicke Friese mit der wallenden Mähne auf diesem Foto ist der Hengst "Christiaan PJ" vom Gestüt Stoeterij Bommelsteyn in den Niederlanden.

Waving mane - portrait of movement

Wild manes - there is hardly anything more fascinating for a horse photographer than photographing a long, flowing horse's mane in motion. But of course, it is not so easy to capture such a portrait of a horse galloping in motion.

An appropriate zoom lens is absolutely necessary for such a photograph, so that the proportions of the horse can be captured correctly and a certain safety distance can be maintained. A 70-200mm zoom is quite sufficient for this purpose, although in the case of this picture I have chosen a fixed focal length of 300mm.

This is of course brighter and more brilliant in the result, but offers much less possibilities for the photographer to react when the horse moves back and forth in the pasture. And if it comes too close, you quickly have only a close-up cut in focus.

The chic frieze with the flowing mane in this photo is the stallion "Christiaan PJ" from Stoeterij Bommelsteyn Stud in the Netherlands.
